Scorchers fall short in the last over

The Scorchers have lost a last over thriller by just three runs to lose their second game of Big Bash to the Sydney Thunder.

The Thunder batted first and posted 4-175 with Usman Khawaja returning from the Test side top scoring with 85 from 51 balls.

English import Tim Bresnan was the best of the Scorchers bowlers claiming two wickets.

Perth lost openers Will Bosisto (9) and Michael Klinger (4) inside the first five overs.

Ashton Turner fell cheaply (2) the Scorchers were 3-32 and skipper Adam Voges (1) went a short time later and the score was 4-35.

Cameron Bancroft (75) and Hilton Cartwright (65) shared a 137-run partnership off 85 deliveries but it wasn't quite enough.

Needing five runs off the last ball, Cartwright belted the ball down the ground for a single.

The Scorchers now head to Alice Springs to take on the Adelaide Strikers on Saturday.
